the fuck is going on?

I realized that I spend a great deal of my time unaware about the world around me. I'll park my behind in front of my computer and stay oblivious as the sun rises and sets. And I'm not even doing anything to educate myself. I feel my vocabulary devolving into middle-school levels (I even had to Google 'devolve' to make sure it means what I think it means) as I watch Twitch play Pokemon.

Once in a while, I'll open up Google News in an attempt to do something productive with my time. But even though I flick through pages upon pages of "news" every day, most of the articles that bubble to the surface are about "popular" things that really don't matter. Do I really care that Justin Bieber got arrested? Not really, but everyone else seems to--and in this world dominated by "social media" and machine-learning algorithms, it's what the news sites believe everyone else should be interested in as well. It's like the self-fulfilling prophecy of TMZ.

It's shockingly hard to find a simple summary of significant current events that is written such that someone with absolutely no prior knowledge but reasonable cognitive abilities can catch up.

So I've started this site, thinking that if I have motivation to find out the fuck is going on, I'll be a more educated person at the end of it.

And who knows, maybe some other sedentary Internet addicts will find it useful as well.
